The General Management of the Ivory Coast Oil Stock Management Company “GESTOCI”, reassured about its operational capacity to deal with any type of danger, during the Internal Operation Plan “POI”, on Wednesday October 4 2023.

The General Manager, Ibrahima Doumbia made the clarification at the end of a fire alarm simulation exercise on the installations of the Abidjan-Vridi Oil Terminal “TPAV” to gauge its Internal Operation Plan (POI).

“With all these experienced people that we have in place and the security means that we have in terms of oil management, we can manage all similar cases,” said General Manager Ibrahima Doumbia.

In fact, it all started around 10:09 a.m. GESTOCI services alerted of the derailment of a tank car loaded with super unleaded fuel causing a fire to break out on the installations of its TPAV Depot, as it was leaving.

Informed by the coordination in charge of the security of the Depot, the General Director triggers the (POI), in accordance with the security protocol. As precautionary measures, the perimeter was sealed off and non-essential personnel evacuated.

Internal rescue teams supported by partners, including the Ivorian Refining Company (SIR), PETROCI, the Military Firefighters Group (GSPM), Kuyo Pipeline, the national gendarmerie, the national police, the Ivorian Anti- pollution (CIAPOL), the emergency medical aid service (SAMU), the port security group and the National Civil Protection Office (ONPC) are working to put out the disaster.

The operations quickly launched were a great success since after 1 hour 35 minutes of fierce fighting, the incident was contained by the internal emergency services of GESTOCI and its partners.

However, there was one case of an injured person who was immediately treated by the medical team and transferred to a health facility.

“It is with pride that the operations went well, we are satisfied,” rejoiced CEO Ibrahima Doumbia.

As a reminder, this simulation operation essentially consisted of the human and material organization necessary for crisis management in accordance with interministerial instruction No. 070/INT/PC of May 13, 1994 relating to the organization of relief, in the event of technological disaster in hydrocarbon and chemical installations.
