The former Ivorian Prime Minister, Hamed Bakayoko, presenting the government's vision in terms of Energy and Hydrocarbons had indicated, during the laying of the first stone of the construction works of the sphere last October, that the Coast d'Ivoire's ambition was to provide the populations with abundant, good quality energy at a lower cost. This desire is now bearing fruit in view of the rate of consumption which continues to increase over the years. This rate has almost doubled (to around 2.5) since President Alassane Ouattara took office.
This convincing result is the result of a vast reform program undertaken in the Energy and Hydrocarbons sectors, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara. They have resulted not only in significant investments, for a better performance of the Ivorian economy, but also for the well-being of the Ivorian populations.
Thus, in its ambition to accelerate the consumption of gas, an essential product in the management of households and industries, the State has made every effort to ensure that its availability is effective everywhere in the Ivorian territory.
The translation of this government vision on the ground by the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies, has had, among other results, the increase in storage capacity, the availability in abundance of butane gas in Ivorian households, etc. The induced effect is that consumption has multiplied by 2.5, between 2012 and 2019, from 154,000 tonnes to 380,000 tonnes.
These results are the fruit of several social measures initiated by the State for the benefit of the populations, in particular the standardization and subsidization of the price of butane gas throughout the country.
In this dynamic of continuing to boost this consumption, the former Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies, and current Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Abdourahmane Cissé, indicated that measures have been taken, by anticipation, to support the growth in consumption which is around 10% per year. He added that the projected consumption of butane in Côte d'Ivoire would be around 900,000 tonnes in 2030.
Minister Cissé also noted that in addition to the investments already made at present, other more massive ones (increase in storage capacities, development of filling centers, etc.) will intervene to meet the strong demand for consumption and to make Côte d'Ivoire a sub-regional oil and gas hub.
